Heat Wave Eastern US Grips Temperatures Soar Over 110 Degrees
A dangerous heat wave eastern US continues to grip much of the central and eastern United States. Heat advisories are launched for more than 100 regions across multiple states. The combination of extreme temperatures and high humidity is creating life-threatening conditions for millions.
Temperature soars 100 degrees
The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that a large, persistent upper-level high-pressure system centered over the southern U.S. is driving intense heat and humidity across the eastern half of the country.
This weather pattern is expected to maintain dangerous conditions for several more days before cooler air arrives later in the week.
Heat index values have reached extreme levels in many areas.
Central Florida faces heat indexes approaching 105–110°F, while other regions are experiencing temperatures near or above 100°F, with heat indexes peaking around 115°F during the late afternoon and evening.
Over the weekend, the NWS issued widespread heat advisories along the East Coast, from central Florida through Virginia, urging residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses and stay hydrated as the heat wave eastern US continues.
Extreme heat wave hits US
Major metropolitan areas across the Southeast are facing extreme heat risks lasting multiple days, with little relief even at night.
The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that Raleigh and Charlotte in North Carolina, Greenville-Spartanburg in South Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia, are among the cities expected to experience the most dangerous conditions.
At the peak of the heat wave eastern US, more than 30 million people could be affected through midweek.

One of the most concerning aspects of this heat wave is the lack of nighttime cooling.
High humidity levels will keep overnight lows from dropping below the mid-70s, and some urban areas could see temperatures hover around 80°F.
Heat wave affects thousands of residents
This persistent heat puts additional stress on infrastructure and significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses for those without access to air-conditioned shelter.
There is some relief ahead. Forecasters predict the dangerous heat wave will begin to subside midweek as a strong cold front moves into the Midwest and Northeast by Wednesday and Thursday, finally breaking the late-July heat pattern. Still, numerous daily record highs are possible across the Northeast and central Florida Peninsula as the heat wave peaks.
