Severe Storm Damage in Philadelphia Region Impacts Multiple Communities
Severe thunderstorms swept across the Delaware Valley on Wednesday afternoon and evening, leaving widespread storm damage in Philadelphia and nearby Pennsylvania communities as cleanup crews worked to restore power and remove fallen trees from roads and homes.

The fast-moving storm system brought heavy rain, powerful wind gusts, and dangerous conditions to several neighborhoods throughout the region.
Utility company PECO reported that approximately 32,000 customers lost electricity immediately after the storms passed through.
Montgomery County accounted for nearly half of the outages, making it one of the hardest-hit areas during the severe weather event.
Pottstown experienced some of the most significant destruction. Along Hanover Street, a large tree crashed to the ground during the peak of the storm, narrowly missing nearby homes.
Resident Jennifer Berry said the terrifying moment sounded like a major explosion outside her house. She quickly ran indoors with her dogs as the weather intensified.
Berry described the storm as extremely chaotic, with strong winds and sheets of rain reducing visibility and turning the outdoors completely white for a brief period.
Although her home lost electricity during the storm, she expressed relief that no one in the neighborhood was seriously injured. Residents across the area spent Thursday assessing damage and clearing debris from yards and streets.
At the nearby Linden Apartments complex, several large trees were uprooted by what officials believe were straight-line winds. Property manager Joshua Groff said tenants compared the storm’s sound to a freight train roaring through the community.
Three trees fell on the property, and two of them struck apartment buildings, causing major roof damage along with shattered windows and damaged doors.
Despite the destruction, Groff confirmed that all residents in the 36-unit complex escaped without injuries. Emergency crews and maintenance workers began repairs soon after the storm moved through the area.
Additional storm damage in Philadelphia suburbs was also reported on Mervine Street in Pottstown, where another large tree toppled onto a home after being ripped from the ground by strong winds.
The American Red Cross is assisting several affected families, including residents displaced from damaged homes in Pottstown. Volunteers are providing financial support, health-related services, and connections to local recovery resources as the community begins rebuilding efforts after the destructive storm system.
