Cyclone Murasu crossed the coast near Ongole in Andhra Pradesh at around 1 a.m. local time on Tuesday, November 3, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The severe cyclonic storm brought maximum sustained winds of 100–110 km/h, with heavy rain affecting coastal communities.
The storm uprooted trees, brought down electricity poles and flooded low-lying areas, particularly in Prakasam and Bapatla districts.
Fishing boats were also damaged, while standing crops were submerged in several locations.
Murasu gradually lost strength after moving inland.
By Tuesday afternoon, the IMD reported that it had weakened into a cyclonic storm over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, with sustained winds of 80–90 km/h and gusts reaching 100 km/h.
The department expected the system to weaken further into a deep depression by midnight.
