Forecasters predict wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h in western and central areas, while Adelaide and surrounding districts could experience damaging gusts of up to 90 km/h.

According to BOM meteorologists, the strongest winds are expected to develop during Monday afternoon and continue overnight into Tuesday. Coastal communities south of Adelaide are likely to experience the most severe impacts, with powerful gusts capable of bringing down trees, damaging buildings, and disrupting essential services.

Weather officials warned that conditions could become hazardous for motorists, particularly on exposed roads and highways where strong crosswinds may create dangerous driving situations.

A thunderstorm alert has also accompanied the severe weather warning South Australia. Rainfall totals between 3 mm and 10 mm are forecast across many districts on Monday, followed by additional showers and storms on Tuesday.

While rainfall amounts are not expected to cause widespread flooding, localized heavy downpours could reduce visibility and create hazardous travel conditions.

Emergency services have encouraged residents to take precautionary measures before conditions worsen. The State Emergency Service (SES) has advised people to secure outdoor furniture, trampolines, and other loose items that could become airborne in strong winds.

Residents have also been urged to move vehicles away from trees and seek shelter indoors when severe weather strikes. By Monday afternoon, the SES had already received dozens of requests for assistance as winds intensified across the state.

Power outages are another major concern as the storm system moves through South Australia. Meteorologists noted that widespread wind events often lead to fallen branches and trees damaging power lines.

Thousands of customers were already affected by outages, and authorities warned that additional disruptions could occur as peak winds arrive.

Utility crews remain on standby to respond to faults, but repair efforts may be delayed in areas experiencing dangerous weather conditions.

Beyond the wind threat, coastal communities are facing additional risks from rough seas and unusually high tides.

A coastal hazard warning has been issued for large stretches of the South Australian coastline, stretching from the Nullarbor region through Ceduna, the Eyre and Yorke Peninsulas, Adelaide's metropolitan beaches, and the Limestone Coast.

Officials warn that beaches, dunes, and coastal infrastructure could suffer significant impacts if conditions intensify. Emergency Services Minister Rhiannon Pearce has urged residents to stay informed, monitor official weather updates, and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
